Lillian Duncan Obituary

Lillian Constance (Fontaine) Duncan, 76, passed away unexpectedly on April 23, 2024 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Salem, MA on October 24, 1947, she was the daughter of loving parents Laurent (Pete) and Mary (Reale) Fontaine. She graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1965 and then from Salem Commercial Business School. It was at Salem Commercial where she met the love of her life Richard Duncan. They married in 1968 and spent over 55 wonderful years together. While devoting herself to raising her family, Lillian also worked for 20 years at International Light Co. in Newburyport as a secretary. Family was truly everything to her and she adored her three children and five grandchildren beyond measure. Birthdays, holidays, family trips, and so many gatherings with close friends all brought her so much joy. She and Richard (Duncan / Dunc as she lovingly called him) were inseparable, always living life to the fullest and prioritizing family first. She never missed a chance to attend sports and school events for her kids and grandchildren throughout the years. Lill and Dunc enjoyed so many wonderful times and special trips together.

She enjoyed golfing with family and friends, going on daily walks, was an incredible cook, and loved to host family and their many dear friends. Her and Dunc loved traveling to Italy and other great spots overseas, and she never had a bad time at a beach. Whether that be during their many trips to the Caribbean, their winter getaways to Florida, their annual summer getaways to Balch Lake, or their weekly visits to the beautiful beaches on the North Shore and New England coastline. She would often say that her happy place was the beach at Plum Island Point with her family by her side, sun shining bright, and a glass of wine in her hand. She was strong in her faith, and ever so caring, loving, and charitable, always putting others before herself.

Lillian is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Kristen Lucier and son-in-law Chris, from Sandown, NH, son Craig Duncan and daughter-in-law Kelly of Newburyport, son Ryan Duncan of Byfield, her grandchildren; Brooke, Noah, and Faith Lucier, Dakota and Delaney Duncan. She also leaves behind her devoted brothers and sisters who she loved so much; John, Mark, Marion, and Elaine, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
