It is with deep sorrow that we mark the passing of our beloved Ann Welch. She died peacefully on April 7, 2024 with family by her side after complications from cancer surgery. Ann was born to Antonia “Alice” (Lachowicz) Fletcher and William Fletcher on June 25, 1951 in Newburyport, MA. She resided in Joppa for her entire life. She graduated with honors from Newburyport High School in 1969. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Salem State University, and Masters from Boston University. She married her high school sweetheart Gary Welch on June 9, 1973. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.
Ann’s love of life is displayed in the number of friends she had, her deep devotion to her faith, her involvement with the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and in her commitment to being the best teacher she could be in her almost 30 year tenure at Triton Regional High School. She loved to travel, especially to Paris. Above all, her greatest love, joy and achievement was her family. She is survived by her husband Gary Welch and their two sons Peter and his wife Dianna, and Thomas, four grandchildren, and several cousins.
Ann was so proud of her grandchildren Abigail, Brayden, Julia and Jackson. They were the light of her life. Ann was always mischievous and loved to have a good time with friends and family up until the very end of her life. Her door was always open, you didn’t even need to knock. There were always blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies ready for guests. She always wanted the best for everyone and was the eternal optimist. Ann will be sorely missed by so many.
