Bill McQuaid passed away April 22, 2017 at his home in Salisbury, MA, after a brief illness.
He was born on October 1, 1939 in Boston, MA, he was the youngest child of the late William J. & Marjorie M. (Smith) McQuaid of Plum Island.
Bill worked for the City of Newburyport from 1972 until his retirement in 2002. He took a great deal of pride and joy in serving a city he had come to love. This love of Newburyport prompted his service as a Newburyport Call Firefighter from 1975, until his honorary retirement in 1980.
Bill was a prolific reader, a talented poet and a dedicated pet owner.
He is survived by his wife Nancy A. (Landry) McQuaid, his children Kenny, Aileen, Dale, Loreen, Betty, Duck (Norman), Kim, Keith, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces Kathleen, Hydie and Tamra; the daughters of his late sister Mrs. Marjorie Gersbach of Glen Cove, ME. Bill will also be missed by many close friends that touched his heart and brought him great joy.
Please join his family at a gathering to celebrate the life of Bill McQuaid on Sunday April 30th, from 11 – 3 at the Elks Hall 25 Low St, Newburyport, MA. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. McQuaid’s family with his funeral arrangements. Bill will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Highland Cemetery in Newburyport.
