Shirley Erhard Obituary

Shirley Louise (Sullivan) Erhard, 88, former long-time resident of Plum Island, passed away January 5, 2018 at Anna Jacques Hospital after a brief illness. Shirley was born in 1929 to the late James and Helen Sullivan, and was sister to the late Mary Jane McElhiney and James H. Sullivan Jr. of Woburn, MA. She attended Woburn schools, and was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1947. Shirley worked at Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, where her artwork was displayed. In 1952 she married John A. Erhard. She and her husband moved their family from Woburn to Plum Island in 1966. She waitressed at the Bette Marie restaurant and the Beachcoma on Plum Island. Shirley then worked at Anna Jacques Hospital from 1974 until her retirement in 1994. Never one to sit idle, she chose to work at Stop ‘N Shop during her retirement. Shirley was active in the Plum Island Mother’s Club and the Plum Island Beautification Society. She and John were also involved in the Plum Island Town Study. Shirley was proud of her Irish heritage which she shared with her large extended family. She also volunteered at the Salvation Army in Newburyport. 

Shirley was predeceased by her husband John, son John Jr., and son George. She is survived by her son Thomas and wife Patty of Plum Island, son James and wife Diane of Rochester, NH, daughter-in-law Linda Naczas-Erhard of Negley, OH, and daughter Shirley (Dollie) Cote and husband Mark of Amesbury, MA, with whom she made her home. She is also survived by grandchildren Jessica Erhard and fiance Tim Demers, Michelle Erhard, Alexander Cote and husband Ian, Cole Erhard, Lucinda Lefas, great-grandchildren Isabella Erhard and Elijah Best, several nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family members and dear friends. 

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01050. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Parish. Burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army at 40 Water Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
