Sheila Kay Russo Obituary

Sheila Kay (Roos) Russo, age 77, a longtime resident of Newbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by family after sustaining a head injury from a fall the previous day.

Sheila Kay was born in Holyoke, MA on September 28, 1940, the oldest of three children of the late John G. and Julia (Donoghue) Roos. She was valedictorian of her class at Sacred Heart High School.

She met the love of her life, Vince, a student at B. U. Medical School, while she was a student at B. C. School of Nursing where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Sheila Kay and Vince married and enjoyed 55 years together building a beautiful life. She dedicated herself to helping others as a nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and volunteer. She worked as a nurse at Boston City Hospital, B. U. Medical Center, and Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital. She was the lead coordinator of the Protecting God’s Children from Sexual Abuse Program, a Corporator of Anna Jaques Hospital, the Treasurer of PITA, a Board Member of The Moseley Fund for Social Service, prior board member of The Swasey Fund, the Treasurer of the AJH Aid Association and Red Cross Blood Drive nurse. She was a tireless advocate for all.

Sheila Kay was the best wife, mother and grandmother in the world. She always put the needs of her family above her own and set an example by living with integrity, humility and grace. She enjoyed sharing music, theater, art and nature with the people she loved.

Sheila Kay will be missed by her adoring husband, Vincent J. Russo MD; her children Teresa R. Cramphorn and partner Tom Gorenflo of MA, Joseph Russo and wife Jacqueline of ME, Katrina Burks and husband Whip of VT, and Anita Bartschat and husband Mike of WI; and 16 grandchildren. Also by brother John Roos, his wife Michele and their children, sister-in-law Patricia Roos, brother in law Warren Russo, his wife Patricia and their daughters.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, Thomas Roos.

Family and friends may call on Thursday March 22, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday March 23, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery both in Newburyport.
