Rose E. (Eaton) Horowicz

Rose E. Horowicz, 98, a resident of Newburyport died Thursday April 12, 2018 at Brigham Health Care in Newburyport. She was born in Newburyport on August 16, 1919 to the late James and Annie (Ivers) Eaton. Rose was raised and educated in Newburyport, following her education she was employed at Sylvania for several years before becoming a Certified Nurses Assistant, employed at Brigham Manor in Newburyport until her retirement in 1985. 

In 1958 she met and married the late Russell Horowicz. Together the couple volunteered for many organizations in our community focusing on the issue of homelessness. She and Russell on separate occasions were voted Yankee Homecoming King and Queen and were also members of the Oddfellows.

Rose is survived by her children Judith Girard of Southport, NC, and Robert Short and his wife Kim of Seabrook, grandchildren, Bonnie Hoffman and her husband Jim, Timmothy Short and his wife Nicole, Robert Short and his wife Beth, Keith Short and his wife Arielle, Ian Short and his wife Jackie and Michael Short, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Rose was predeceased by her son Charles Grant Short, Jr, and grandchildren, Cathy Petit and Ivan Girard III.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday April 16, 2018 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. Her graveside service and burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Belleville Cemetery in Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Horowicz’s name to Salvation Army of Newburyport where she volunteered for many years.
