Robert MacNeill Obituary

Robert L. MacNeill, 82 years of age, long time resident of Newburyport died on Thursday,  November 23, 2017, at his home surrounded by his girls and his family.  He was born in Beverly MA. on November 27, 1934 to the late Vernon and Doris MacNeill. He graduated from high school an amazing athlete who lettered in 4 sports. He then joined the Navy and served on the USS SALEM where he continued his love of sports he was an accomplished boxer with a dangerous left hook. He always had a passion to help his fellow man so at that point he became a physician's assistant, this carried him through an honorable discharge and later to becoming an RN. He worked along some of the finest and most skilled Drs. at Brigham and Women's and Mass General in the operating rooms. At this time he continued his college education. He worked at GE in Beverly and then found his roots back to medicine. He was always thinking about everything an INVENTOR at heart this lead him to proudly co- invented the first home kidney dialysis machine, and many other things. He helped START THE MRFRS rescue for felines as well. He was a member of St. Marks Lodge in Nbpt. the Kilwinning Club of Boston, the King Cyrus Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Nbpt and the Odd Fellows of Nbpt. He was also a member of the Aleppo Shriners where he played the bagpipes and marched in their band for many years.

Robert is survived by his wife Nancy Lee (Bucklin) MacNeill of Nbpt, his children Richard MacNeill and his wife Gwen of PA, Terry MacNeill of PA, James MacNeill of ND,  Randy MacNeill and his wife Virginia of PA, Tammy Pike and her husband Bill of Nbpt, and Lawrence MacNeill and his wife Erica of TX, siblings, Vernon MacNeill and his wife Marion of NH, Laura Gross and her husband Arnie of TN, and Harry MacNeill and his wife Donna of Jacksonville, Florida, as well as many grandchildren great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. at Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High Street Nbpt MA 01950. Naval Military Honors will be rendered in the Funeral Home during the calling hours at 7:30 PM. Parking is available behind the Funeral Home. Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
