Michael Edward Curran, 84, a lifelong resident of Newburyport, died Thursday afternoon June 15, 2017 at Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. He was born on November 11, 1932 in Upper Saranac Lake, New York to the late Patrick and Carolyn (Leonard) Curran. Michael married Frances “Fran” M. Parasso, the love of his life and wife of 63 years, on August 16, 1953. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, class of 1951, enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served our country proudly during the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service, Korean Service, and United Nations Service Medals, and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed by the Arthur S. Page Insurance Agency in Newburyport for most of his working career, and achieved the status of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU); he retired in 1997. Michael enjoyed taking long drives with Fran wherever the road led them, and he especially loved spending time with his family by their pool. The Boston sports teams now have a great fan in heaven.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Fran, sons Michael E. Curran, Jr. and his wife Debbie, and Mark D. Curran and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Joshua Curran and his wife Jamie, Emma Curran and her husband Chris, Matthew Curran, Jessie Curran, and Christopher Curran and his fiancé Kate; and great Grandson Andrew. He also leaves behind sisters Patricia (Curran) Messinger and Barbara (Curran) Braunstein. Michael was predeceased by his siblings Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Curran) Doyle, June (Curran) Cayer, Donald Curran, and Stephen Curran.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday June 20, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green St. Newburyport. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Curran’s family with his funeral arrangements.
