James Hopkinson Obituary

James Neil Hopkinson age 64, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 6, 2017 as he left his Plum Island home to go to work. Jim was born on August 19, 1953 in Lawrence, MA to the late James and Gena (Butko) Hopkinson. He was raised in Methuen and educated in the Methuen school system.

Jim owned several rental properties in Lawrence, MA until recent years. For the past several years, he delivered pharmaceuticals for Eaton Apothecary to group homes, mostly for elderly and handicapped clients. They loved him for his patience, humor and generosity… calling him “Big Jim” because he was 6 feet 9 inches tall. He was truly a gentle giant, that could not pass a children’s lemonade stand.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Barbara J Hopkinson of Plum Island, MA, daughter Melanie Hopkinson of Lynn, MA (and her partner Steve Tenney), sons Matthew Hopkinson of Manchester, NH (and his wife Renee Hopkinson) , and Christopher Hopkinson of Newton, MA (and his fiancé Becky Reuse), plus his step-son, Brad DeLibero (and his wife Kim-Soo) and grandson Brent Michael DeLibero of Plum Island, MA. Jim was also survivedby his sister Nancy Lynch of Londonderry, NH and brothers Bryan and Tom Hopkinson of Lawrence, MA, plus nieces and nephews — Brent Davis, Brittany Bowley, Brooke McDonald and Brendan Hopkinson.

Jim’s funeral service will be at the First Parish Church, 20 High St, Newbury, MA on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 4:00 PM. Burial will be private at a later date.
