Irene Freeman Obituary

Irene Pearl (Mutch) Freeman, 87, of Newburyport, passed away peacefully March 11, 2018, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home on October 23, 1930, in Medford, Massachusetts to her parents the late John Edward and Elsie May (MacKay) Mutch.

Irene graduated from Medford High School in 1948 and also attended additional business and administrative assistant courses at North Shore Community College. She worked at American Mutual Insurance Co., General Oil Co., and Chirug & Cairns, Inc. prior to settling into her career at Governor Dummer Academy (GDA) in Byfield, MA. Irene was immensely proud to work at GDA where she supported the Headmaster and received numerous accolades and recognitions throughout her 30 year career.

Irene was a resident of Newburyport for 49 years and enjoyed spending time at the beach, traveling, gardening and handiwork. She received the most joy spending time with her friends and family and especially loved her role as Nana! There was always a glimmer in her eyes and bountiful laughter when she shared precious moments with her grand and great grandchildren.

Irene was the loving daughter of the late John Edward and Elsie May (MacKay) Mutch. Her siblings Alfreda and her husband Warren Taylor of North Reading, George Mutch, Duncan Mutch of Colrain, Jessie and her husband Jackie Mutch and Elsie and her husband Charles Brown of Kingfield, ME and brother in law, Charlie Denning of North Reading preceded her death. She is survived by her sister Mary Denning of Newburyport.

Irene will be deeply missed by her children Jack and his wife Janice of Amesbury, Gary and his wife Jodi of Salisbury, David and his wife Michelle of Newburyport, Cheryl and her husband Mike of Aurora, Colorado, Susan and her husband Bill of Haverhill and Heidi of Bradford and her longtime friend, Bob Peters of Newburyport. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Freeman, of Newburyport. She was the proud grandmother of Danielle Therrien, Jason Freeman, Justin Freeman, Joshua Freeman, Ryan Freeman, Shaun Freeman, Steven Freeman, Caitlin (Freeman) Clifford, Jennifer Leeman, Matthew Leeman, David Freeman, Taylor Kadel, Derek Freeman, Samantha Brickley, Nicole Freeman, David Brickley and Brendan Stiles. Additionally, she is survived by her great grandchildren Joshua and Brendan Paradis, Avery Therrien, Ava Freeman, Riley, Harper and Isla Freeman, Isabella, Jack and Madelynn Freeman, Sam Freeman and Evelyn Leeman.

Family and friends may call on Saturday March 17, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. Services and burial will be private.
