Christina Rushton-Power Obituary

Christina Rushton-Power, also known as “Chrissy” [to few] and “Christine” [to even fewer], passed away suddenly but peacefully in her home on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the age of 49. Christina was born on October 26, 1967 in Boston, MA to Jim Rushton and Barbara DeFiore and was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School. She enjoyed a diverse career of occupations ranging from elementary school lunch monitor to pharmacy technician. Whatever the occupation it always involved helping others, she loved surrounding herself with people and made it her duty to spread love to her coworkers and customers. Christina’s most recent jobs, as a CVS Pharmacy technician and bus driver for city of Newburyport’s Council on Aging, will be the ones that are remembered most vividly by the people whose lives she touched.

Of all the occupations she held over her lifetime, her most important job was being a loving, devoted, and dedicated mother. Christina’s main topic of discussion with her coworkers and customers was how proud she was of her children, Gavin and Samantha. You could ask any regular customer who entered CVS where they had graduated from college and you would most likely receive a correct response. Christina was fiercely proud of them and their accomplishments and she never shied away from sharing so.

For those who knew her more intimately, they would remember her fondness of Batman merchandise where she had a Batman steering wheel cover and figurines set on her car’s dashboard. She also loved decorating her home with memorabilia (toys, knick-knacks, watches, t-shirts, you name it) and photos of friends and family. She also had a special place in her heart for the beach where she would spend hours collecting every shell and piece of sea glass along the ocean’s shore.

If you asked anyone to describe Christina, the word ‘dull’ would never be used. She was an eccentric soul (sometimes even a little crazy and overbearing) with a world of unselfish love in her heart. In Christina’s own words, she was ‘all that and a bag of chips’. In her short time with us Christina touched many lives with her outgoing personality and loving spirit and the world has lost a little of its glitter with her passing.

She is survived by her children Gavin and Samantha Power, her siblings and in-laws, Shawn & Donna Ritchea, Cheryl & Bill Callahan, Stephen Power, Chris and Garth Rushton, her niece and nephew Molly & Billy Callahan, her father Jim, and her companion Ron O’Leary.
